Ilsan Cha Hospital announced on the 2nd that it has appointed Dr. Sun-Kyung Lee, a renowned authority in the early diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancers, to its staff.
According to reports, Dr. Lee, who began her practice at the Ilsan Cha Hospital Gynecological Oncology Center in March, is a graduate of the Kyung Hee University School of Medicine and holds a Ph.D. from Korea University. Over a distinguished 37-year career beginning in 1983, she has served in key leadership roles at Kyung Hee Medical Center and Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong, including Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Women’s Health Center, and Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Lee is widely recognized for introducing vaginal hysterectomy to the domestic medical community as a safer alternative with fewer complications compared to traditional open or laparoscopic hysterectomies for conditions such as uterine fibroids, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, adenomyosis, and abnormal uterine bleeding. She is also a recognized expert in gynecological oncology, having accumulated extensive clinical experience in rare procedures such as radical vulvectomy.
Furthermore, she is a leading authority in the early diagnosis of gynecological cancers and tumors, utilizing colposcopy and cervicography. Her contributions to the field include serving as a director and auditor for the Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology (formerly the Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy), as well as serving as a director and member of the Academic Committee for the Korean Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also served as President of the Korean Cervicography Research Group.
With the appointment of Dr. Lee, Ilsan Cha Hospital has finalized the medical team for its Gynecological Oncology Center and plans to intensify its focus on gynecological cancer treatment. The center is now staffed by a total of eight specialists. These experts provide personalized, state-of-the-art care for cancers such as cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer, utilizing advanced techniques including robotic surgery, laparoscopy, hysterectomy, and single-port surgery.
